A photographic odyssey through modern-day Vietnam. This work is not war-centric, nor is it a pastoral idyll. Vietnam had been cut off from the West for the 30 years previous to Epstein’s visits and, in the early 1990s, gradually began opening up to a market economy and a new relationship with the United States. Epstein’s pictures interpret a culture on the economic and political edge.
