Inside the Studio: Artist Video Profiles
Presented by iCI.
Mitch Epstein describes a recent portrait he created of his father and discusses how he aims to
produce images that seem effortless, but are in fact complex in their content and overall context,
such as those found in his project titled American Power.
Created by Independent Curators International in partnership with Talking Point Films, LLC,
the Artist Video Profiles were filmed in artists' studios during the Fall of 2007 and the Spring of 2008.
Mitch's work was featured in the iCI exhibition Shoot the Family.

American Power: What's Really At Risk?
December 6 2007, 7pm at the Donnell Auditorium, New York.
Presented by The Architectural League of New York.
Mitch Epstein's current work, American Power,
examines energy usage and the idea of excess in the United States.
These pictures were made on forays to energy production sites and their environs.
Epstein plays with the definition of American power, probing not just corporate power
but the powers of nature, sexuality, consumption, and size.
